All is revealed ...

We are now finally at liberty to reveal the details of our new job!

We have been appointed by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, as the two halves of a job share, to spend five years from September working to make real our vision of a juster and more peaceful world. Our vision was one of six chosen from the over 1600 applicants - the JRCT will give us a salary and some office expenses, but all other costs we'll have to find/fund-raise for ourselves.

Here's how we summarised our idea in 100 words on the application form:

We believe that relationships are the key to changing the world. We want to see a new, two-way relationship between ordinary people and their world that isn’t mediated by or dependent on national governments, multi-national corporations, or the mass media. We believe we can begin this with a working model of working-class, poor and immigrant community-led bridge building with the developing world – starting in our own neighbourhood. By focusing out on the world rather than just in on our own problems we will strengthen our own community, and many others, while weaving an international web of ordinary peacemongers.

We may put up more about this in the coming weeks - for now, there's a Guardian article here, the Sunday Times will apparently have something on Sunday (of all days!), and there's a visionaries website which should shortly have us mentioned on it too.

Thanks again to everyone who helped with the application - we're looking forward to getting started once we're home.

- Heather & Mark
