Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is up in the Western Ghats, so we were cool, even a little chilly, for the first time in weeks. It rained a lot, and we wished we'd had more time to spend there. We took a crowded wildlife-viewing boat out across the big lake early in the morning, and saw more animals and birds than we thought we would, given the general chatter and noisiness of everyone on board.
The Coffee Inn in Thekkady, near our guest house, serves home-made brown bread - this uncommon treat made Mark very happy.
