In Governor's Bay

It was a long drive to Governor's Bay, so we arrived in the dark - and we wished we'd had longer to stay and look around once we got there.

Anne and David welcomed us warmly (Anne was waiting for us on the road in the dark to make sure we didn't miss the turning) into their gorgeous home - lots of space inside, with amazing views over the bay, a lovely warm wood stove, land with plums, apples and native forest around them, and a short walk, through a very English-looking lane, to the seashore. Despite having messed them about by muddling up our dates, we were looked after with pavlova, poetry, a visit from their daughter Lucy, vegetable lasagne, and the news (via email) that we'd been shortlisted (see our earlier post about this - we're telling the story about a week behind living it, hope you don't mind!)

The fantail followed us around in the garden for about ten minutes, apparently being very friendly (though Ann says the theory is they eat the flies you disturb as you walk). We walked down a lane to the seashore - looking back you could see their red house on the hill.
